What is the Fourth Cavalry?
The Fourth Cavalry Regiment was formed on 3 AUG 1861. The Fourth Cavalry is one of the oldest fighting units of the United States Army and is still active today. In WWII, the 4th Cavalry Regiment with its two squadrons, was re-organized as the Fourth Cavalry Group. Prior to D-Day, the 1st and 2nd Squadrons were re-designated The 4th and 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadrons, Mechanized, respectively. My site and discussions are focused on WWII, The Fourth Cavalry Group, 4th and 24th Squadrons.
